This course is designed for those who are new to cooking or wish to strengthen their basic kitchen skills. You’ll learn essential techniques such as knife handling, ingredient preparation, simple cooking methods, and how to follow and adapt recipes with ease.

Along the way, you’ll explore a variety of everyday dishes, discover how to balance flavours, and build a solid foundation for confident, enjoyable home cooking. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and inspiration to create delicious meals from scratch and continue developing your culinary abilities with confidence.

All of our courses are delivered by our resident master chef. The classes take place in our stunning country kitchen with breathtaking views of the Swinton Estate grounds and the Yorkshire Dales.

The class may contain the following – Milk Bread, Seasonal Soup, Egg Cookery and omelettes, seasonal crumble with Chantilly Cream, Beef Enchiladas, and curry.

Your course may feature

FAQs

Most half-day cookery courses start at 10:00am and finish around 1:30pm. Full-day courses start at at 10:00am and finish around 3:00pm. Please arrive at the Swinton Park Hotel reception for tea and coffee served from 9:30am. 

For children's courses, Mini Chefs takes place between 10:00am and 3:00pm. The Junior chefs course is between 2:00pm and 4:30pm.  

During half-day and full-day courses, lunch will be served consisting of dishes you've prepared during the event. Should you have any special dietary requirements or allergies please let us know so that we can ensure these are accommodated.

All required ingredients and equipment will be provided as part of your course. You don't need to bring anything extra - just yourself. 

Yes! When you finish the course, you'll receive a copy of all the recipes you learned to use at home.

Swinton Cookery School is a relaxed, open demonstration kitchen housed in a converted Georgian stable wing adjacent to Swinton Park hotel.

From classic baking to Sunday roasts, there’s a cookery course to suit everyone. So if you are beginner with a keen interest or a professional, broadening their knowledge, join us at Swinton and fall in love with cooking all over again.
