Swinton Estate is committed to protect the environment to ensure there’s clean air, fresh water, and unspoiled nature for all to enjoy – today and tomorrow. Honouring that commitment means finding different ways to work, live and travel on the Swinton Estate. With over 7,000 acres of moorland and 1,700 acres of woodland, our natural capital is a resource that can provide natural solutions to the climate crisis. We are also committed to protecting habitats to provide better breeding grounds for some of our rarest species.
Our responsibility for the wellbeing of future generations is interwoven in the landscape that surrounds us. For over 20 years we have invested in technology and natural solutions to reduce our emissions and waste, improve biodiversity and sequester carbon. This includes the installation of a carbon neutral biomass boiler in 2006, planting over 40,000 trees, restoring peatland on the moors, and planting wild flower meadows. Please visit Our Journey page at our Swinton Nourish website for further detail.
The Estate is already carbon neutral, but we have no intention of stopping there. Our ambition is to reduce our footprint further by 30% by 2040. This will be achieved by further minimising the impact of our operations and emissions, combined with large scale investments to increase biodiversity and carbon sequestration. Swinton Nourish is the partnership that provides the platform for these investments, with a Climate Action Academy that delivers environmental tuition and forums, along with back to nature wellbeing for our partners.
