Whether you are an experienced deer manager or a recreational stalker looking to build your skills, this practical day offers the chance to develop your understanding of responsible deer management and best practice in the field. Led by experienced instructors, the programme combines expert guidance with practical demonstrations and simulated stalking activities, covering field craft, safe shot placement, carcass assessment, venison preparation, and more.
The Day
Your day begins at 9am at the Deer House, situated within the 90-acre Deer Park at Swinton Park Hotel in Yorkshire. Tea, coffee, and pastries will be available on arrival before the day’s programme gets underway.
The morning starts with an informative session exploring the principles of good deer management, including species, habitat, and preparation for a successful stalk. You will then have the opportunity to observe practical gralloch demonstrations covering carcass assessment and field dressing, using fallow deer from the Deer Park.
After a relaxed lunch of venison burgers and refreshments at the Deer House, the afternoon moves outdoors for a simulated stalking experience. Working alongside an experienced instructor, you will put your field craft and marksmanship to the test in a controlled live-firing environment, with a strong focus on safety, identification, and responsible stalking practices.
The final session will look at the journey from carcass to table, with a practical demonstration of skinning and butchery techniques and an opportunity to learn more about the preparation of venison.
With a balance of expert insight, practical learning, and time in the field, the day provides an opportunity to enhance your skills, broaden your knowledge, and connect with others who share an interest in deer management and stalking.
All participants must have either of the following:
