Immerse yourself in a magical woodland and lakeside landscape this winter with Luminescence – A Winter Light Trail. Set amidst the heritage gardens of Swinton Park Hotel, you will be transported to an ethereal illuminated experience depicting the magic of the natural world through an extensive light installation and using the beauty of Mother Nature as the inspiration for the various tableaux around the mile-long trail.
Luminescence is a captivating experience for all the family. Warming drinks and snacks are available partway round the trail and Swinton Park Hotel’s selection of bars and restaurants is available to enhance your visit both pre and post-trail*.

Before your visit, enjoy Afternoon Tea in the elegant Drawing Room at Swinton Park Hotel.
Afternoon Tea is a quintessential tradition, offering beautiful, sweet delicacies from our pastry kitchen, locally sourced meats, local preserves, and perhaps a glass of English sparkling wine or champagne, for an extra special occasion.
Alternatively, bring family and friends together for a stunning Sunday Lunch set within the opulence of Samuel’s Restaurant before you embark upon the trail. Our Sunday Lunch menu includes show-stopping classic dishes and, of course, seasonal Yorkshire Roasts with all the trimmings.
Before you explore the delights of the trail, or for a laid-back supper after the trail, adjourn to The Terrace Restaurant and Bar where you can enjoy fresh, seasonal plates, ideal for sharing with friends and family.
Enjoy our a la carte menu in the restaurant, or our special Luminescence menu in the Terrace Bar or outside on the terrace – featuring warming cheese fondue, sliders, charcuterie, mulled wine, and boozy hot chocolate.
The restaurant features estate-grown produce within a welcoming, relaxed dining room. Enjoy our delicious menu alongside our fabulous selection of cocktails, wine, and drinks in an casual, contemporary space.

Key information
- Children and buggies are welcome. There are a few steps at the start of the trail and it is step-free after that.
- The trail is just over one mile long. It will take a maximum of 1 hour 30 minutes to complete, depending on the pace of your group. You are welcome to arrive early for a meal or afternoon tea prior to your booked trail time or to join us afterwards for a drink or dinner. Please allow enough time to walk the trail when making your reservation.
- Car parking for Luminescence visitors will be clearly signposted – please follow instructions on your pre-arrival email that will be sent. The What 3 Words location is: //defers.forgives.boss
- Dogs are welcome and should be kept on a lead at all times.
- This is an outdoor event – please dress warmly and with appropriate footwear to enjoy the trail safely.
- There will be a portaloo halfway round the trail, as well as a hut where you can buy a limited selection of refreshments. We will be accepting card payments only.

What is Swinton Park Hotel?
The Swinton Park Hotel is a luxury Grade II* castle set in beautiful parkland grounds at the centre of the Swinton Estate.
Owned by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s, and the ancestral seat of the Earl of Swinton, guests at the hotel enjoy a traditional, yet informal stately home experience.
