We are pleased to share that we have become the only Yorkshire estate to achieve the Wildlife Farms and Estates (WFE) Level 2 accreditation for biodiversity excellence.
This independently assessed label of excellence in land management is the latest certification to demonstrate how we are championing the enhancement of wildlife and biodiversity, further validating our commitment to protecting the environment for all to enjoy today and tomorrow.
WFE accreditation is awarded to farms and estates that provide evidence of holistic and sustainable environmental, economic and social land management practices, recognising the multifunctional role of rural business and land use. We join six other estates at Level 2 across England, and another 64 in Scotland.
Mark Cunliffe-Lister said: “The process of WFE Level 2 accreditation has been invaluable in assessing and improving our biodiversity efforts. Providing its clear, science-backed guidance ensures that we are implementing strategies that genuinely enhance ecosystems across the varied habitats and land uses on the Swinton Estate. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to sustainable land management and conservation.”
Swinton Estate continues to be custodians of the landscape with the obligation to nurture and protect what is there. We are proud to say we are carbon neutral, but we are not stopping there. We are aiming to reduce our carbon footprint by a further 30% by 2040. Earlier this year we launch our sustainability partnership program Swinton Nourish. This provides an investment platform to help businesses achieve their carbon neutral goals, and for developers to achieve their local biodiversity commitments. Through tree planting, creating wildlife corridors and improving soil health, partners can invest in our verified Carbon Plus credits, and our nature recovery programme delivers BNG units by enhancing habitats at a range of sites.
