With the success of the Grand Départ for the Tour de France in Yorkshire, cycling has never been more popular. Part of the Tour de France route runs through Swinton Estate, on the section between Hawes and Ripon, so you can try it out for yourself!
With 20,000 acres of farmland and moorland, Swinton Estate provides a wonderful base for a cycling trip, whether for a day, weekend or a short break. It offers a variety of inclines and terrain, from steep moorland tracks to winding country lanes, all with incredible views across rolling countryside into the Dales.
For those that like an adrenaline rush there’s our advanced mountain bike trail in the Druids Woodland; an 8km natural track through woodland around the Druid’s Temple and hillside fields with green, blue, red and black tracks. There’s the facilities available for hosing down your bikes after, and a cafe to re-fuel with hearty Yorkshire food.
Swinton Park is at the heart of Swinton Estate, so an ideal base for both gentle afternoons of exploration or more testing cycling challenges. The route from Swinton Bivouac to Swinton Park and return is a modest 6 mile ride and you can stop for a reviving cup of tea at Swinton Park before you head back to the hills! Mountain bikes are available for hire from the Bivouac’s Visitor Centre along with maps of our bike trails. Rucksack picnics can also be made to order for you to enjoy along the way.
