Experience the great outdoors

Swinton Bivouac forms part of the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate – a piece of ‘off-grid’ heaven – providing an incredible feeling of space and tranquillity in a truly natural environment.

The Bivouac is founded on the firmest environmental principles, with an unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism; from the carbon neutral wood-chip boiler for all hot water and heating for the site; to grey water and reed-bed filtration system; to wood burners in the yurts and tree lodges.

Swinton Bivouac is situated at the edge of the moor and nestled into the shelter of the Druid’s Temple plantation. It is a destination with unparalleled views and scenery. We have miles of bike and walking trails, beautifully rustic accommodation, wood-fired hot tubs and the woodland sauna.

Tree Lodges

Our gorgeous, secluded Tree Lodges are tucked away in woodland, a five minute walk from the Bivouac Café and provide a truly authentic, rustic ‘back to nature’ holiday experience.

Meadow Yurts

Nestled in the wild flower meadow at Swinton Bivouac is our small group of seven Meadow Yurts. Each has a stunning view across the Swinton Estate and wider Yorkshire Dales, with unlimited blue sky and back to nature vibe. In spring 2024, some of our Meadow Yurts will enjoy an attached ‘bedroom cabin’, complete with log burning stove and double bed providing an extra level of cosiness and more living space.

The Loft

A large and airy room with plenty of space and an interconnecting room. The Loft is a wonderful self-contained space, great for those who feel that pull of the great outdoors and glamping, but just can’t do without the luxuries of a reading light or catching the latest episode in the series.

Dining at Swinton Bivouac

The quirky Bivouac Café is our on-site watering hole where delicious, hearty breakfasts, lunches and suppers await! Coffee, teas, oodles of cakes are ready to sustain after fabulous days outdoors. The Bivouac Café boasts fabulous views over the Yorkshire Dales, with plenty of space to eat outside.

Equally, if you’re cooking for yourself, we can have a box of local, ‘Yorkshire breakfast’ goodies delivered to your Meadow Yurt or Tree Lodge – ready to cook!

Druid’s Temple

The Druid’s Temple, situated in Druid’s Wood at Swinton Bivouac, is one of Yorkshire’s most interesting follies.

Just a short walk from the Bivouac Café, car park, Tree Lodges and Meadow Yurts is a unique collection of awe inspiring standing stones to intrigue and explore!

Built in the late 1700s by William Danby (then owner of the Swinton Estate), it is a fabulous place to visit with walking trails giving way to more groups of standing stones, bird watching hides and spectacular views.

Swinton Bivouac’s eco ethos

The Bivouac is founded on the firmest environmental principles, with an unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism. The landscape, local community and integration of the site are at the heart of what Swinton Bivouac is about.
